New work on the site!

After a long time of working with my portfolio consultant over in Atlanta, I have finally completed 2 new galleries. If you go to Jason Wallis dot Com and take a look at the Portraits gallery as well as the Publications gallery (Publications will soon be changed to "Fashion" since that is what is in it), you will see some new stuff and some old stuff that is FINALLY on the web site! Please take a moment and sign up for the email list, we promise not to spam you. In fact there is a good chance we will never send you anything, but in case we have something really special or really urgent, we would love to be able to contact our friends. Also, it seems that Kelli was a very popular post here on the old blog. I don't think I have ever had this many comments! So, I will definitely post some more from that shoot, as well we just did another shoot together for Portico. Speaking of comments, I love them! So, please feel free to leave your opions and comments on any post.

The Week of Shooting

I am still trying to uncover from all of the shooting I did a few weeks back when I rented the Phase One camera. The first day, Celine and I photographed Kelli Hoggle. Celine met Kelli at N'Vogue, a hip salon in Birmingham where Celine does makeup. Kelli was convinced to come shoot with us, and as a result of the fun we had and how awesome Kelli did, we are shooting again with her on Monday for the next Portico style section.

Grateful

I am grateful for what I get to do. I get to make pretty pictures, and make people happy. I really enjoy that. I often get emails from clients expressing gratitude for the pictures I have made with them. This week I photographed the baby of one of my friends Sara. Sara and I worked together when I was shooting for Lowe's Creative Ideas magazine. Ava, her daughter is 2 days older than my son Ian. Here is my favorite picture from our time, the slideshow (follow the link on her name), and Sara's response, it was very encouraging!

Ava

Jason,
I just finished looking at the slideshow again -- for the millionth
time today! When I put Ava down for her nap, I came up to the office
to watch, and after I put her to bed, I had to come up to see it again
-- and again, and again. I will treasure these pictures always. I'm
usually the one behind the camera, so there are very few shots of Ava
and me together (I'm sure you can relate!) We had such fun with you --
this will definitely have to become a family tradition:)

I sent the link to a number of my friends and they've all been
emailing and calling to say what an amazing job you did. My best
friends live in Williamsburg and LA, and both said they wished you
lived closer to them so you could shoot their kids! Another good
friend just called to get your number and said she's definitely going
to ask you to shoot her family in the spring (and they've been using
the same photographer for four years!)

I was on the phone with my mom as she watched the slideshow for the
first time and it was so wonderful hearing her reactions, especially
when she started to cry. She was very moved. A bunch of friends had
the same reaction apparently. Ahhhh, the power of pictures. You truly
have a gift...And needless to say, Logan was very impressed. My hat is
off to you! (By the way, if you need a publicist, I'm your gal - ha!)

Family Sessions

This time of year is not ideal for photographing kids outside. Due to weather constraints I have photographed some kids in their homes, which I love! It really allows me to capture the ordinary place they are everyday, in a new way for parents to see, that make some incredible pictures. It is so funny because it seems so ordinary and laid back, but when the parents see the result it is amazing!

Kernel Panic

Just when I typed the title before, I got a spinning wheel. Basically Kernel Panics are not good in Mac world, and they cause me great stress. So, while I sit here beside my studio computer that won't turn on, I thought I could post something. Caleb keeps asking me to post, so Caleb here's to you again.

I mentioned the week of shooting a couple of weeks ago. I think in that week I shot my favorite picture I have taken to date. It really reflects where I want to be, so here it is. It will appear in Portico magazine for the March fashion section. Once again there was an incredible team assembled. The illustrious Celine Chenoweth did all of the styling, makeup and produced the whole shoot. Holly did a an incredible job with the hair, Rob my faithful assitant made my life much easier that day. And it goes without saying that our model Lacy Russell, did a fabulous job, she was such a pro to be dressed as you see her in a house with no heat on a day that dipped into the low 30's, what a trooper!

I know, I know...

Caleb told me when I came in a couple of days ago that I had to post something. I haven't neglected posting on purpose. Last week I rented a Phase One camera back to play with. If you know what that is, I am impressed, if you don't, it doesn't matter except to say that the pictures it makes are really BIG and beautiful. Alot of advertising photogs and big time magazine photogs, that shoot digital, use this piece of machinery. So, I will have several things to post that I photoed with that later. But, I got a call from my mate, Cary that said he had seen the billboard that we shot a few months back. So, I drove across town and got to see my first billboard posted. It's pretty cool. I never thought I would be here, what a fun ride it is! And yes, that is Rashel, and yes she has experienced this first hand. God can make good out of anything.

Learning new stuff...

Rob has been hanging out with us at the studio and assisting me. He mostly gets his picture taken when I want to try something out. He has had several comments on his MySpace account directed at this picture. It seems to polarize people, either they think it is really cool, or really creepy.

Then there is the ever present Cary Norton on my photoblog.

New Year No Resolutions, Many Goals

I made a New Year's resolution several years ago to never make another New Year's resolution. I have kept it! Instead I try to look forward to what the year has to offer and to set goals and make plans. This year I am very focused on attracting national editorial and advertising work. There I have said it and now will be held accountable. I also have the goal to live my life abandoned to what I say I believe. Hopefully by knowing me and maybe by reading this blog, you won't have to ask what that is.

I got to work on a great job for Children's Hospital. Paul Crawford an amazingly creative art director concepted and executed this brilliant brochure for Children's Hospital.
